I read an article last week that really made me sit back and scratch my head.  I was really wondering if anyone else felt this way.  Anyway, the article talked about the new tablets that are coming out on the market and instead of sitting in front of a big screen TV to watch programs they will be watching their different shows on individual tablets.  This article also discussed how this is really going to hurt the large screen market because they won’t be replacing them if they break.  I find this very hard to believe.  I cannot imagine a group of people sitting around, watching a football game (or any sport for that matter) on a little 10” screen.  What about movies and surround sound?  Is it going to be as enjoyable to watch on a little tablet?  I don’t think so.  What do you think?  Is this something that you would do?

Here is a link to the article if you want to read it for yourself.

It’s really no surprise that Android has seen such an increase in Malware attacks lately. Android has come along as one of the main operating systems for mobile devices, both phones and tablets, in a relatively short amount of time. One of the statistics I was reading from McAfee showed that the malware attacks on Android devices have increased by 37% in just the last quarter alone. That is definitly something that should grab our attention as we look at how to secure the devices that we rely on daily. McAfee’s 3rd quarter threat reports show that the Android devices are the worst OS for Malware attacks. The Windows Phone 7 and the iPhone have not been affected by any of these attacks. This also makes you wonder about the security that is built in to the Android devices. Have they done enough to secure the Operating System and what can be done to protect yourself?

Here is the McAfee Report if you are intereseted in reading more about it.

When I read this article, it confirmed everything that I have discussed with our clients in the past.  Up until now, everyone believes that the MAC OS is not able to get a virus.  Why would anyone think this?  Because it has not been a problem in the past?  The truth is, MAC has not really had a stronghold in the computer market before and now they are starting to take a little more ground.  The bigger they get in business computers, the more attackers will see them as a viable resource to attack.  I have been saying this for years.  Don’t get me wrong here, I think that MAC makes a good machine.  I do however think that they are much more limiting than a PC running Windows or some variation of Linux.  Take a look at this article and read for yourself.  I think this is just the beginning.

We all use web browsers on a daily basis and we each have a favorite.  I personally use multiple web browsers for different tasks.  I have recently downloaded and started using IE9.  I have to say, I am really impressed with some the new design and features.  They have scaled down the interface to work very similar to Google Chrome’s browser.  It is also faster and more responsive when veiwing websites.  I used to use Google Chrome for most of my browsing and switch to IE when a site required it.  A number of the sites that require certain levels of security would not work correctly in Google Chrome.  I also use a product called Windows Live Mesh that allows me to synchronize my favorites between multiple computers.  This is a wonderful feature and updates automatically with no additional user intervention after it has been setup (I will talk more about this in a future article).  On the down side, you must be running Windows Vista or 7 in order to run IE9.  If you are not running Windows 7, stay tuned, I will be writing articles on this as well.  IE9 is also designed with all of the latest web programming in mind.  You will see a lot of changes on the web with the release of HTML 5.   This new browser also supports hardware acceleration for text, graphics and video.  Take a closer look here and see what you think.

If you haven’t noticed already, working with Windows 7 is much easier in some ways than working with Windows XP. One of the new features that was added to help locate and manage information more quickly are Libraries. For example, it used to be that if you wanted to access the documents on your computer, you would have to go remember all of the locations that you save your different documents. Some might be saved on your local drive and some might be spread out to other computers on your network. Libraries make getting to this information much easier because it allows you to link all of your documents to one location. To find out more click this link.
